1. Websites take Resources A good web presence costs time - and a successful web presence, lots of it. Sitting at a computer initiates a “fast forward the clock” button - and as yet, no one has found the “Pause” ! If you are currently running just to stand still (and many small businesses are) , be honest with yourself - can you really devote sufficient time to a whole new concept ? Replying to emails promptly, acknowledging orders, web stock control, packaging, updating etc all take time before you even consider...
2 Creating the website is the easy part. Getting your site on the internet is easy - so easy in fact, that millions of new ones appear annually. The `net is full of “orphan” sites where the owners have invested in creating the site without realising that promoting the site is where the real work is required. Suddenly - nothing happens. Take advice on how you will promote your site BEFORE it is developed as it may affect how you want the site creating (for example, do you need to be able to create different landing pages for offers that you promote ?). If you plan to use Google Adwords then this cost needs to be considered. Promoting your site will take time (see point 1) and unless you have the skills inhouse you WILL need to invest in advice too if you don`t want to waste your valuable budget.
3 We are Unique - just like everyone else It`s amazing! Every business is selling the Highest Quality, every business offers the Best Service, every business offers the Best Value. Yawn. Such meaningless phrases and declarations abound across the internet. DON`T be a cliche. When considering your site copy, BE your business. What does your business stand for ? What is unique about your business offering? The “offline” rules apply to online content too. Consider the style and purpose of your site carefully, and insist that these values be foremost in the site design and content.
